This year, January 16th, 2017 was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a holiday in which everyone commemorates the impact he has left and while celebrating his life and achievements. Each year, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., high schools within Bergen County are contacted to nominate a senior to receive the Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Certificate of Merit award in recognition of their academic achievements and the community service they have done to help others. This year, I was selected to represent my high school and receive the Youth Certificate of Merit by the Bergen County MLK Birthday Observance Committee. It was an honor to have been recognized by my school and nominated for an award that represents the ideals and accomplishments of Dr. MartinLuther King, Jr.
